cinematography Question about 7D and focus

Hello guys.

I'm going to shoot some videos alone talking static to the camera and a bit further from it but i would like to know how can i set the focus in my face with a 7D? Well i guess it's impossible to do it manual because i'm alone. But is it possible to do it in AF? I guess that will be difficult because it has tendency to pull focus at the worst times and to locations unwanted?

I'm asking this because the material it's not mine, i dont have it with me and i'm going to shoot tomorrow, so i would like to know it before.

Can you put a piece of tape on the floor, focus up to that distance, and then go in front of the camera, and stand on the tape?

You mean mark the spot where i'll be and focus?

If i focus that place, then when i'll be there, my face wont be focused, right?

The few times I've done this I've put something on a chair, or used a hat stand or whatever and put it precisely where my head is going to be. Then I focus where that is, make sure it's actually marked where I'm standing. Then I stand there and record for a few seconds to check lighting and focus. If I'm happy then I'll hit record and go stand on my mark and say whatever I have to say
