editing Quality help

Every time I film a video, I use a full HD 1080 camera. Somehow, by the time it ends up on youtube, the quality has gone down to 480 p. I was wondering how to keep this from happening. I use Windows Movie Maker, the original, not Live. I know it isn't the best film editor, but it works fine for what I use it for. Help would be appreciated. Thank you!

because windows movie maker doesn't export it in hd, it'll lower it. get something better. i know you say "it's not the best" but I can tell you that it IS the worst.

Can you recommend any other free program that can do what it does? If so, that would actually be much appreciated. I have a very small (read--nonexistant) budget for my films, and it would need to be freeware. I am aware that Movie maker can export HD, I'm not sure how yet.
