Projectors- showing your stuff

Im new here and wondering if anyone here is or has setup showings of their own work with simple projection equipment?
Ive been involved locally in helping some indie film makers show off some 3D shorts they have made and I build a simple and cheap passive 3D rig for them.
It seems that high quality 3D has not made big inroads to indie film for many reasons but that is not the case i dont think any more.
is there any interest in projection tech and where it is today ? 2D or 3D.

What are the many reasons that HQ 3D has not made any inroads?

Why do you think this is not the case any more?

Elaborate, por favor. :abduct:

Well im glad to explain. at least from what i have seen there is a feeling that stereoscopic 3D was complicated and working with some of the older rigs with two cameras was not for everyone., they were expensive, not everyone has experience with 3D editing and some of the different techniques involved in making enjoyable 3D ( ie. immersive ) .
I have also talked to a lot of people in my work as an optical design engineer and working on cinema systems both cameras and projectors, and just have not seen a lot of use of S3D in indie films.

Why I don’t believe there is as much of a roadblock anymore is due to the fast rise in HD home projectors and working with a bunch of AV nuts on DIY passive 3D rigs that rival most theaters.
I helped build a dual DLP projector stack to show some indie films in 3D on a 18' screen recently that was a big hit with some of the local film makers here. it only cost 1500 to make the whole thing and we ran it from a desktop pc. one of the local movie theater managers came to see the show and was impressed how much better the images were than his cinema.
Some of the best looking footage was made with a pair of gopro cameras in 1080i. i know those are not expensive cameras even in the paired setup.
I really enjoy building rigs and solving problems and came on here wondering what level of interest anyone may have in the projection / display side of things. i may try and build to suit affordable projection systems. ive got a friend in LA who makes 3D surfing video and wanted to get his stuff shown. a few years ago i was not sure how to do this in an affordable way and now i see how. id be glad to share what ive learned.
