Project Management software for Filmmaking

Hi,*

My name is Jeremy and I am working on a web based Project Management solution that is designed specifically with filmmakers in mind (think basecamp for filmmakers). Im a filmmaker myself, and have found where current softwares are lacking, and going back and forth with a bunch of emails, documents, google calendars etc with your staff, freelancers, and clients turns into a bogged-down nightmare quick. So I'm out to build a better solution.

What I'd love to hear from everyone is:

1) What is your current communication method/solution for projects/productions?
2) What do you like/dislike about it
3) What would you like to see implemented in your dream Production Management software solution?

Thanks everyone!*

I use Feng Office.. http://www.fengoffice.com/web/ which is great. There is a community edition that is free (you have to host it).
It lets me assign users to tasks, gives the users their own private "workspace", has a shared calendar, document upload, task tracking, etc, etc....

Integration with Celtx. Open the celtx file in the PM and be able to run reports, etc and output them to google calendar for scheduling. meetings, prop building, etc, etc.
Google calendar
Document version tracking

Yes I host it. I have total control over it that way... I dont know of any negative points about hosting it myself....

Thanks Anim8! Heres a little more info on my thoughts for what i want to make...

I am aiming at filmmakers/videographers who either tend to collaborate with others pretty heavily and/or work on multiple projects at the same time. My product is more along the lines of creating a better system for communication and organization of logistics. Im not so much trying to replace Celtx/FinalDraft/etc as integrate them into a better communication environment.

FocalPoint (working title) will allow you to log into your account and immediately see all the pending tasks for the day. Call times and locations. Equipment pickups. Meetings. You can see multiple days at a time, or just go to any particular day. you can see tasks that only apply to you specifically, or all the tasks. In the case of multiple projects, you can view only the projects you want, or view all at once.

You can hop onto the calendar and see things coming up for the next week/month.etc. You can add/edit/delete meetings, tasks, deadlines, shoots, etc. You can upload revised script pages/other pertinent docs. You can look up any contact info for people you have added to your project, as well as assign them job titles and site permissions. You can shoot out messages and tag anyone in your contacts list to them (or block them from seeing via permissions)

And you do all this from one site that everyone can log into and see. You don’t have to shoot out emails all over the place and hope they see them. You can keep better track of all your messages and documents. you don’t have to hunt around for contact info, shooting locations, that old contract you need, or anything else. And you don’t have your inbox cluttered with countless emails pertaining to various details on various projects that you have to sort through, respond to, and then organize.

And were looking at pricing between $9.99-49.99/mo for different tiers. (with a possible freemium offering too)
