Production name

How do you come up with a name for a production company? Like I'm thinking of creating one like a youtube page to house my content and I figured It'd be like my production label if that makes sense. When coming up with the name does it have to have productions at the end or studios? Like am I too young to start thinking of what I would like to call a production company if I had one. It'd just be me for now but maybe in the future who know's could be the next Universal or Paramount...

Use something that's important to you, or funny, or even just painfully obvious.

My company name, Alcove Audio Productions, comes from the fact that my first "recording studio" was in a small alcove of my apartment.

The name should be meaningful to you. I came up with mine playing the "What's Your Porn Star Name" game. I just thought that it was so cool that I kept it. As for putting productions or studio in the name, I wouldn't bother for now.

I always like the nonsical names that stick with you like, "Bad Robot" or "Running with Scissors"... film is about the only industry where you can get away with just about anything. Make it count and I bet people will remember you.

I was first a rapper, yes a rapper and my rap name was Alp-Pacino, after many rap battles almost everyone was using my rap name against me, one day my friend was doing a competition for his school to find the coolest word.

When I said helping him I came across salacious, it described me very well and fitted my appearance so I took it on, then I moved into music production and chose the name djsalacious but after a few months some idiot decided to copy me on YouTube even having a similar email address so I decided to use my birth year of 89 and hey presto 8salacious9 I like it, I'm keeping it and I don't care what anyone says about it.

Well I think I have come up with A pretty good name for my Production name. I decided to call my production company The Whiskey Mystic. I think it sounds kind've mysterious like what do they make or something. Makes you wonder. I came up with it while listening to The Doors.

Well I'll tell you a story of whiskey and mystics and men
And about the believers, and how the whole thing began - Jim Morrison

Also Alcove Audio thats a cool name. Makes me think of putting on headphones and listening to music on a relaxing day.

I have wanted to do a production company sort of thing for my films but I don't know how? Do you have to pay to get some kind of license or something?

Nah man you just start using it. I usually would check that there isn't someone else with the exact same name with a quick google search but basically you just register your name with a website, youtube channel, etc. I mean if you want it to get trademarked and all that crap then you can but you just start using the name and bam that's it.

As for me, my production name is Clickity Clow. Back in high school me and my friends would joke around always saying clickity clow, I think I originally heard it from dave chappelle.. and now it's our production name.

People remember you from your work, not your production company name. Eg. Amblin Entertainment.

Or Lucasfilm. I mean, it's not like it's part of his name or anything ;)

The name is all about branding. It may help to have a slightly trendy name like Universal, Paramount or Sony but I don't think their studio names are the reason they achieved their big success.

Name = Adjective + Noun

Bad + Robot
Warner + Bros.
Paramount + Pictures

Blue + Sky
Red + Rock
Silver + River
Angry + Toad
Cool + Junk
Dumb + Looks
Random + Sh!t

Whatever you want. They're disposable.

And not until you actually want to start a company with a local business license and tax identifier number for tax purposes don't worry about any legal mumbo jumbo.
That stuffs only important when income occurs or you want a tax deduction for your "business expenses".

I was walking to school one day (few years back) and I stuck two names together and BAM! Just like that, I had no paper to note it down so I had to repeat it and memorize it for a couple of hours xD

With production names you can go any of several ways.
1. Make it something that is meaningful to you. An example being 'Alcove Audio', it just so happens that what was meaningful to them also sounded very cool.

2. Make it meaningful to the genre you plan to work in. If you're thinking of making war films, for example, a (top of my head, don't use this, it sounds bad) name could be Ammunition Films. Of course, 'Films' or 'Productions' or 'Pictures' doesn't need to go on the end, but often it helps.

3. Just make it something that you think sounds good. I went with my 'production name' because I was reading a book and I came across a phrase used that I thought sounded good ('..big, red. Films...' became Big Red Films), so I went with it. It is as simple as that.

4. Google 'production company name generator'.
