Potter On Bio Channel

Did anybody catch the various making of Harry Potter films on the Biography Channel tonight? Interesting stuff and I want a jib.

I have new respect for Chris Columbus for all that was involved in launching that series of movies.

Agreed. As much as most people I know loathe the first two movies, so many decisions that a director gets to make on a film, none of them get to make for the sequels because of what Chris Columbus established.

They've had the same art and props department heads, creature and make up FX, and more since Chris did the first films. Not to mention the casting of all the lead kid actors that have been in every movie. The overall "look" of the films with costumes, actors, basic set design, and those are all Chris Columbus' decisions as a director.

Each successive director has added their own look and flare, but the core is still from the first film and the vision therein.

I have to admit, I've never seen a Harry Potter movie. What caught my eye was an Arri camera and they had me for three hours.

I'm a sucker for behind the scene documentaries.

Yes, Columbus was involved in a George Lucas kind of way, except he had to also deal with the writers vision of the story.

As a parent with a 19 years old who daughter literally grew up with Harry Potter I must say that I enjoy the films. Her 9 years old sister is similarly infatuated, and both are anticipating the last film with a lot of excitement. My wife noted, and I agree with her, the J.K. Rowling seemed to start writing the books from about #4 onward with the films in mind.

Really? I would say that's the opposite. From the 4th book on, the page count went epic and there was NO WAY they could incorporate everything she wrote into the films.

Likewise.

I can imagine she was thinking of the films, but having already written four books, i wouldn't suggest she changed her method in the slightest.
