Please I need help with stock footage

I know stock footage is lame. I am new to the film world and I am hooked. I am working on a documnetry and need help unerstanding the stock footage rules. Do you have any idea on the use of news footage? Do you have a list of sites that offer new media clips, old new media clips etc. thank you

I use getty images for a lot of my corporate work. Shutterstock is another. I think Sony has one now. You have to pay for their stuff though. There are some public domain stock sites which would mean they are clear to use. Just do a search for them there's a bunch of both.

Most places you sign up and then you can get access to a low res version with a watermark. If you want to buy it, you pay them and they give you access to the highest quality they have of it. Prices vary depending on the topic and rarity. If you find something that appears to be p.d make sure you read the fine print and make sure it is okay for you to use it.

Archive.org has a growing selection of public-domain footage that might be worth your time to sift through.

If you're going to be buying rights to footage, those rights & conditions will vary from company to company. You'll need to ask them.

any idea on the use of news footage?

Ask the news company who owns the footage. If they don't own it themselves, it's quite possible they bought stock footage as well.
