Pay with raw footage vs. Pay with Copy

Hi. Sorry if this has already been discussed but I was unable to find.

I have an actor that wants the raw footage of what scenes they are in and not just a copy of the final product.

I've only ever given a copy of the final product.

Is giving a copy of the raw footage usual?

Thanks,

Ken

We didn't give raw footage per se, but we did give actors (on request) the edited version of just the scenes that they are in, so that they can use it on their reel.

But that's unrelated to "payment" just an accommodation that we made for the actors.

Lots of actors ask for the raw footage, to assemble their own segments for their reel... usually featuring a lot more of their own facetime. Sometimes they get it; sometimes not.

If you don't want to be giving out huge chunks of raw fooatge, you could always cut an alternative scene or two for him/her with extra facetime.

Other factors may come into play: Was this something specified in actor's contract? (it happens). Was actor good to work with, or set-killing ne'er-do-well now asking for a favour? (request results may vary)

To follow up on ZenSteve's comments: we had excellent experiences with our actors, so that definitely effected our willingness to go the extra mile.

Plus we liked the idea that these clips (which we felt very good about) would be going out to directors and casting directors: we were/are proud of the work that we did, and felt it would help to raise the movie's profile. Of course, that and a Metro card will get you on the NYC subway. :)
