cinematography Opinion

Hi everyone,

I’m in the process of planning a camera purchase for my film projects and I’m currently torn between two setups:

  1. A Sony FX6 as the main camera paired with a BMPCC 6K as the B-cam, or
  2. Two BMPCC 6Ks for consistency

I’ll be editing and color grading in DaVinci Resolve, and I’m concerned about potential post-production challenges — particularly around matching color profiles, codecs, and dynamic range if I go with the mixed setup.

From your experience, is it significantly more time-consuming or complex to match footage between the FX6 and BMPCC 6K in post? Or is it more efficient overall to stick with two Blackmagic cameras for a unified workflows

I’d really appreciate any insight or advice based on real-world use. Thanks in advance

I'd aim to keep sensors in the same family. That also means keeping your color profiles consistent (such as having both cameras in S-Cine or S-Log).

Why not an FX6, and an FX3 or FX30?

Thank you very much AcousticAI. It is unfortunate that I already purchased the BMPCC and later I leaned about the strength of the FX6.

I dnt want to rush into buying a second cam

Well, then I’d consider a second BMPCC 6K, or…

… sell the Blackmagic and put that money toward new purchases, so you can adopt the Sony ecosystem for both cameras.
