I am a musician/composer, and I was referred here by a friend after we had a discussion about indie films and doing music for them. Needless to say, composing jobs are few and far between, and indie films seems like the best and most fun place to start.

Not exactly sure if this is where I need to be or if there's somewhere else, but I'm hopin' to build some connections and show what I can do.

You've come to the right place. There are lots of very friendly people here who are always willing to help, give advice, etc.....and capable too. Good luck on the search!

So, eh, it looks like most of this place you have to pay to use - is there anything I could do here as far as finding someone to use my talents that doesn't involve becoming a premier member? I'm not a bum, just a college student with a dying car

Think about the investment you've already made in your education. This site is worth every penny and the costs are negligible. Some of the information and help I've recieved from members took years for those individuals to learn, and they share freely. Just do it, and then ride your bike to class for a few days. What you save on gas will pay for your membership.

And to be fair, while you wait to pick up a membership, the free stuff is pretty damn helpful, too.
