Newcomer

Hi,
I'm new to this site and can't wait to chat and hang out with people who have the same interests as me. I've only made a couple of short films with a friend with just a DV camcorder. Filmmaking and movies are a big part of my life (or at least I want it to), but it's hard when you're dead center of the US and when nobody has the same interests as you. :( Anyways, I hope I feel welcomed here and I can't wait to chat with you all. Happy Filming.

Hey Blake,

I kinda know how you feel. I don't even feel that many people at the film school I go to are that passionate about film. It's kinda discouraging. But don't worry, keep your interests going and you'll find a great group of people to share your ideas with you. Good start coming to Indietalk. Welcome!

Thanks guys. What film school are you attending, pappy? I would love to go to a film school, but currently don't have the money to. I just graduated in May and I have to attend an in-state college for now. :( But I plan to live my dream: I just don't know how.

Heh...my film school isn't glamorous at all or even really heard of. I go to Keene State in NH. Also, film school isn't everything. Sometimes I wonder if I would have been better off going in a different area, but staying true to film along the way. What I would suggest to you, is see what you can do about getting scholarships and grants if you really want to go to film school and where money might be a problem. Also, no matter what school you go to, just make the best of it. You don't have to go to film school to be a film maker. There are tons of people out their in the industry who did something completely non-related in college. Kubrick failed out of Taft and then became a photojournalist. That's how he got his start. Tarantino never went to college either. The point is, just make the best of it with your hopes in clear view. Part of being a film maker is looking things in differenent perspectives, so if you are studying something different, use this as an oppertunity to shine some light on an area you might not know that much about. You will then have more knowledge on something significant in life then the guy who spent 4 years learning about how to work a camera. Good luck to ya buddy.

Thanks, pappy. I most definitely am making the best of all my studies. I know there are more than one way to be a filmmaker. It's just that going to film school seems like the best way. I'll never give up though. I'm still looking at the bright side. I guess I'm just bummed that I don't know anyone who is really interested in filmmaking.

NOBODY? Really? Last time I put an advert on a bunch of college bullentin boards I got lots of calls. Try the library, bookstore, supermarket, anything, getting a group of like minded people together is awesome. BTW, welcome to the board!
