Newbie wants a camera!

Hey,
I'm really new to this but have been recently inspired buy my favorite director, John Carpenter after reading his book John Carpenter: The dark prince!
I am currently studying audiovisuals in Valencia, Spain so I do know a little about camera's, lighting, etc...
I really want to buy a camera and start making short films A.S.A.P!
Can anyone tell me, what I need to look for in a camera and, what cameras they would recomend on a budget of 1500 euros...
What other kinds of accesories will I need?
Thanks!
Jack!

canon t2i
tripod
editing software.... you can get sony vegas free for a month and then get the hd version and you can get that free for another month
small lighting rig
maybe some lenses

Can you recomend any websites where I can buy a small lighting rig from?
I've been looking at the Canon 5D and 7D, from what I can see from peoples opinion, the 7D is better for filming than the 5D... Do you recomend the 7D over the t2i?
I have also looked at the Panasonic HDC-SDT750... It's more of a videocamera as if to say... Which of the three would you recomend?

I don't like the DSLR cameras so I would choose the Panasonic.

You don't mention how much you can spend so it makes camera
suggestions difficult. But if you're considering the 7D then you're
looking in the $2,500 range (1875€). Is that right?

Lowel makes nice kits. Tungsten lights with stands, barndoors and
hard case. Britek makes nice light kits - cheaper than Lowel and
not as durable, but very usable. You can also check Arri lights -
more expensive and worth every penny. I have a Lowel 6 light kit
with the Omni’s and Tota’s that I bought new in 1990 and am still
using it 20 years later.

I will have to say to get the most for your money go for the canon 550d/t2i.
And then spend the rest of the money on lightning, portable sound rig etc.

I currently have a Canon 450D... And I do need a DSLR for my studys... saving money at the moment, so maybe when I reach 1500euros, might be a good idea to sell the 450D to add to the budget... want to purchase a couple of books on shortmovies (recomend any¿?¿?¿?) Thanks for the lighting rig info! Great help!
Seems like a DSLR is way to go...
Are second hand cameras worth looking into?
