New UK filmchannel

Budding filmmakers get own channel
Budding filmmakers are being given their own TV channel.
The Propeller channel will showcase the work of young UK talent.

First-time directors, producers and actors will have their films seen by the nation.

Propeller launches on Sunday on Sky channel 289.

The not-for-profit channel is backed by the UK Film Council.

Its Film First strand will air digital short and feature-length films never seen on television before.

The Red Carpet TV strand will broadcast programming made by students from the UK's media colleges and training academies.

"The aims of the station are twofold - firstly to provide innovative, vibrant and entertaining viewing and secondly to act as a feeder of talent to the TV and film industry," said Propeller's managing director Simon Couth.

"We aim to use the channel to propel the careers of the next generation of TV and film producers."

Sara Harrison, head of diversity and development for ITV, said: "We will be looking very closely at the output and hope very much it will provide a source of talent for ITV in the future."
