You can balance it even with weights. Just adjust the length of the thingy.

That's the easy part. It's the horizontal and vertical axis that are the most difficult to get perfect - you can adjust them at the top by moving the plate, but fine tuning to get the camera dead level is easiest the way I explained.

Unless someone has a better system.
