New to video editing

This may be in the wrong area, and i apologize in advance, but..

I just got sony Vegas Pro 8.0 to edit some videos i took with Fraps, and the problem is, i have abour 7 videos worth of footage, and i want to cut pits and pieces out of each one, but theres no simple solution to how to do that, and the interactive tutorial is horrible, so i can't rely on that. Would any of you fine people mind helping me figure out how to do it? Pretty Please?

And if its not too much trouble, could you help me with adding text with a transparent BG so it shows the video under the text? I couldn't get that to work either.

I've never worked with sony vegas pro, but I've worked on others. The only way to do it (that I'm aware of. I'm a noob to the editing world as well) is to view and upload all your footage and pick all the shots you like, and edit it together to make it flow right.

Just pick the ones that best match your vision.

Don't know if I helped any.

A couple of things. Not to take anything away from this forum, but there is an excellent Vegas user forum at http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/default.asp

I'm a Vegas user and it's a great place for Vegas specific questions.

In Vegas Pro 8, which I also currently use, the default screen that opens, has a section at the top left of the screen with displays the following, Explorer, Project Media, Trimmer, Transitions, Video FX, Media Generators, in tabs at the bottom of that section. Just click on the Trimmer tab and it will open up.
