I think he needs to realise that the way to fix the problems with todays movies is not to apply rules that we must adhere to, everyone knows you need to learn the rules, only to figure out how to break them well.
I believe the way to fix the problem is for the studios to stop throwing millions of dollars at unoriginal, stale ideas, and actually inspire people to throw out the rule book and just create!
