Need another excuse to watch "Pulp Fiction"?

I agree it's kind of 'wrong.' Reminds me of that guy who's a proponent of re-editing old literature. He did it with some Charles Dickens novel and took out 1500 words.

And while I'm told it's a much better read, the whole idea makes me sad.

The more I think about it, the more I'm against the entire concept. It's kind of offensive, in my opinion. It's almost like these fan-editors are saying, "Hey, you F'd up; let me fix it for you". Screw you, fan-editor! Why don't you make a damn movie?!

That's the beauty of a fan edit. They ARE saying they want to make changes for the 'better', then they do. I don't think these replace original edits, but offer alternatives. Everyone is entitle to opinions, but these guys actually DO something about it.

Technically, the filmmakers own the copyright and buying the DVD does not give the explicit right for others to alter it. Then you have the filmmakers who tinker and change their work incessantly. George Lucas BEGAN this trend inadvertently by making changes to his own films that he legally has the right to do. Then came the first popular fan edit THE PHANTOM EDIT of Episode I. Most people who have seen it agree profusely that it was a better edit of the film. Now re-editing STAR WARS movies is probably the most common Fan Edits of them all. I saw one called STAR WARS RE-VISITED that was an incredibly improved in many ways from the "special editions" and re-releases from a Lucasfilm.

I don't see the harm in these, as long as the people viewing purchased and own the legit DVD.

Please don't disown me...

I haven't seen The Godfather trilogy.

First of all... what the hell is wrong with you? What exactly are you waiting for? I read the book when I was 14. I thought it was a religious document, and at that age I afforded Italian Americans the same place in my heart that I gave to Ninjas and Bruce Lee. I still do. Watch it immediately.

Funny story, I don't know if I'll be able to write it as well as I tell it, but I took a film studies class in college. During one of the TA sessions, the TA was joking "haha...you wont belieeeeeeeeeve what happened last year. We were discussing Psycho, and one of the students said,... haha, he said... hahahah... what is psycho? aaaaa hahahhahah"
I looked up meekly and asked "What is Psycho?"
The TA looked at me like I was the bastard son of inbred aliens. This was about 10 years ago and I've seen it since then.

Anyway. you need to stop whatever it is you are doing and get caught up on Coppola movies. You can skip part 3. It makes absolutely no sense.

You need to watch it again.

Michael has divested all corrupt activities, gone legit, paid everyone their share so that he can ease his conscious with being a parent of sorts and move on, especially onto the oil thingie with the church.
But the evil forces can't seem to prosper without Michael and move against him, so...
He moves against them, and sure enough he get's 'em - but at a price.

The purpose is to show the audience that in the world of corruption via orgainized crime there's no getting out once you're in.
So don't get in.
It's a morality tale, not a cool subculture tale.

Same for REQUIEM FOR A DREAM or TRAINSPOTTING or MIDNIGHT COWBOY.
The lifestyle looks like fun, but it ain't.

Ray, somehow you always find the best picture links. I don't know how you do it.

My problem with part three is that it really deviates from the principles laid out in the book on proper criminal behavior. I don't remember all the issues I had with the movie any more. I haven't seen it since I decided I didn't like it. All I know is that the book doesn't deal with the issues of morality. The book acknowledges that the behavior is criminal and "illegal." But the book also affirms that this is the "only" way to act, if you want to defend your family in a dignified proper way, i.e. become a criminal so powerful, that they can't touch you, whoever 'they' or the 'pezzonovante' are. Vito Corleone did what he did, for his family, and he didn't apologize, even if it meant he had to kill people or destroy lives. And that was pretty cool when I was 14.

In part 2, aside from the flashbacks, all the present day stuff, is new and not in the book, but Michael's behavior is consistent with the ruthless principles laid out in the book.

In part 3, all of a sudden, he is more good than bad and making decisions that I couldn't understand when I tried to relate it to the original mafia concepts that the book lays out. So even though I agree with you, that it may be a morality tale, I didn't want to watch Godfather 3 to find out how his behavior catches up with Michael. I wanted to see him on Top. Evil wins. The progeny of Vito Corleone are doing just fine....thank you very much. But instead, Coppola tells us how being in the Mafia is bad for your health. Of course it is. But The Godfather is fantasy. Vito Corleone is boss, king and conqueror ... etc.

There are some other decision issues as well, but they are spoilers and it doesn't really matter. I just didn't like the movie.

Holy ... that was way too long. Sorry to bore you Ray... :)
