Need advice...

Hello, I hope everyone is having a good day.

Anyway I need some advice as always. I did an internship on a commercial last year and I met alot of interesting people. One of whom is a grip for Steven Spielburg, and worked on Munich, War of the worlds, now indiana jones and soon Lincoln. Anyway, we became good friends and I got his number. Some months pass by, and I called him and he was leaving to go and start shooting the new Indiana Jones film. About 2-3 months later I call him, and he isnt able to talk because he is always working on set. So now they finally finished filming indiana, and I really want to call him. However, christmas holidays and break is next week. Do you think it is wise to call this busy guy now? or should I wait until the holidays are over?

And as to why I want to call him? I just want to maintain our friendship and stay in touch. I also want to take him out to lunch, ask him if he can hook me up with anymore internship opportunities, or introduce to me to other people. ( I hope its not impolite having a 17 year old buying a 40 something year old lunch)

I'd do a "reverse lookup" on his phone number/name, find his address, and send him a Christmas Card.

Then, I'd call him in the new year and find out what he's doing. I don't think it's "impolite" for a 17-yr-old to hang out with a 40-year-old, but it could be seen as Taboo, creepy, etc... in other words, I'd just be straight up about the fact that you're young and hungry for experience... skip the lunch and go straight for asking about his current work and the possibilities of bringing you on in an unpaid position. Then, work on improving your friendship in the confines of the set.

But that's just one way... You really have to use your own judgement! There's no set way in life- a million different angles are all still angles in the end.

Send him and his family a Christmas card but I think you're correct -- wait until after the holidays. After a production, he's just settling down with his family and relaxing... Send the card and then follow up after the new year...

I really liked your guys' idea on the reverse cellphone. However, my mom said it would be really creepy to the guy if I got his address without his consent... and I also have to pay these sites to do it. So I went ahead and called him a couple days ago. He said if I finish up school strong this year, for summer break he will call people he knows at production companies and put me as a production assistant on featured films. :) The bad news is, he says I wont be able to do my general education in college and be able to be a P.A. on featured films cause of scheduling conflicts. He said I should just intern over summer breaks. Now. I wait.
