watch My second music video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTdulAOefBA

My second music video. I made everything from filming, directing to editing. It was a no-budget music video shot in about 6 hours over two days. We had no preparation in regards of story-telling or planning besides the location.

Shot with Canon 550D / T2i, a manfrotto tripod, a 50mm f/1.8, a canon 24-105mm f/4.

Feedback welcome.

Liked it. Thought it was well lit for a no budget vid, well edited. My only complaint is that you've put film effects on there but didnt grunge up the rest of the image. Lots of people do this so I'm not singling you out.

The take HD dslr footage whack a 16mm film filter on and it just jars for me. A tip, in after effects (or premiere) add a dark grey sold, add hls noise auto, whack up the lightness of the grain and set the preset to grain. Then set the transfer mode of the layer to 'Hard Light'. Drop it down to about 20% opacity (or to whatever suites). You will get a nice organic grain effect. Just a starter tip.

One of the best comments I'vw ever had from a film maker was 'Did you use cine?' for this video.

But, overall though, it was excellent. Well done.

Thanks for the comment. I didn't really put much effort into adding the film effects, it was mostly just as an editing filler sort of.

I don't work in After Effects or Premiere. I've been working in Sony Vegas since I was 12... My pc is 5 years old and about to die. When I get a new one my plans are to get AE and Premiere and learn the programs. Vegas is outdated, I know. I'll remember to get back onto this thread and test your advice.

Glad you guys liked it :)

my criticism relates to camera movement and emotion, I feel that most of this should have been shot handheld, putting a camera on a tripod while someone is rapping with an intense face doesnt work for me and takes out the emotion, take a look at this video by Matt Alonzo for The Game, notice how the camera captures Games emotion...

You're absolutely right.

As this was only my second music video, I discovered some things during the making. One of them being your point. I was so unhappy with the tripod shots afterwards, but I had to include it due to lack of material.

Thanks for the criticism though!

My buddy showed me this like a month ago. I thought it was well done. Now to find out it was your second video. That's pretty cool.

I've seen quite a few videos made by indie guys and I'm generally the first to bash them for sucking. This video that you uploaded, is freakin' great.

You could use the use of a few digital effects at a couple points. Not sure, but I'm not a big fan of just straight black and white videos.

I'd personally add a little color to the black and white. But that's me.

Keep up the good work. You're a true photographer.

This video was kinda freaky for me with a lot of visual going on at once my eyes were everywhere but nicely done!
