I think that this is pretty much the way forward, building up a DSLR rig.
What I have done is this:
The whole thing is based on a Tilta Baseplate, which connects to tripods, via a VLock, so it is extremely quick to put on and take off.
The Zacuto EVF, which you can hardly see on this picture is essential for every DSLR, as it adds amazing features to your DSLR, like Zebras and Peaking!
Hangrip Follow Focus. Makes focusing easier and more accurate for me. Cheap and works.
Then I am running audio via a cheap shotgun microphone into a Zoom H1 and use the output on that, to run it back in the camera. So essentially i am recording sound to the recorder and to the camera. THIS DOESN'T REPLACE A SOUND GUY/GAL! It's only to get better reference audio and make syncing easier!
The whole thing is mounted to a Kessler Crane Pocket Dolly in this pic, which takes the weight with no problem! To mount it on the shoulder, you will have the EVF on the otherside and add some handles to the front. Thats it! Very compact setup and it really imitates the feel of a film camera!
