Musical Timing?

I was just wondering how everyone goes about setting a piece of music to their footage? Do you lay the footage out first, and set the music to it after making a few tweaks, or have a certain song in mind before a shoot?

Here's a short video, no prep at all, shot on the spot pointing out the misdoings of amateurs (albeit drastic) set to a piece of music.

I have the genre of the music decided during the pre-production process, but the music is made to fit the locked video, not the other way round. That is for narrative films of course.

The music is timed to the video. Switching to Logic Studio and being able to pull in video directly into the composing program was the greatest thing to ever happen to my attempts at film scoring.

Oh, the irony.

To answer your question, video normally comes first, but there might be some situations in which music comes first (I lay down music first, before editing any musical montage).
