Monopods?

What would you use a monopod for? I have seen them around but I can't seem to figure out what sorts of shots you can do with them? Also would a monopod be a good investment?

I don't know what people use them for, I assume they use them for the same reasons you would use a tripod. The only thing is that a tripod is much much more sturdy because the weight is spread out over a larger base.

The only instance I can think where you would have to use one is if there was somewhere you needed the camera in which a tripod wouldn't fit.

It's a way to quicky stabilize a camera. Much more a still photographer thing for times a tripod is too big and bulky to deal with. It's not as stable as a tripod, but more stable than handheld. Not much use in video I wouldn't think, first off, you can't pan or tilt, so what's the point.
