Mission impossible face mask

Not sure this is post production, probably pre and post, but does anybody know how I can learn to do this effect? What do I need to do pre and post. Also is there anywhere I can also look. I'm going to start looking now, but thought I'd post here before I started looking

right... so real lookalike masks.

I was thinking that maybe they had masks over which they tracked the real face for a while, but I think these might actually have been real lookalike masks

They are silicone custom masks. They are magical and ultra realistic BUT very expensive compared to latex.

Composite Effects blows SPFX masks out of the water with price and they are as good or even better.

In the MI movies they are definitely using more than just a mask - even a very realistic mask won't look right because the underlying shape of the face is often too different and will look noticeably off. So they use the mask, but from the looks of it they start with a tracked shot of the real person's face which then morphs into the mask once it's distorted enough that it doesn't have to look perfect.

If I remember correctly they shot the first actor in the right pose/light and comped that onto a plate of the second (masked) actor wearing a latex mask. They tracked and stretched the first actors face to the latex mask thats pulled off.
