It's always about the artist, not the artists tools; s/he adapts his/her style to the tools available.
Rap and Techno were started by some creative folks who used the technological cast-offs of their more financially fortunate peers, and the new way they created and used sounds have become a part of our musical language.
When it comes to being in the entertainment business - meaning that you have to satisfy clients and want to make a profit - the trend seems to be towards Macs, at least in the music and audio post worlds.
