Looking for a good lighting kit.

I'm looking for a decent, three point, florescent lighting kit for around $1000. I need the most versatile kit I can get because that's probably all I'll be able to afford for a long time. Should I get tubes with barn doors, or screen boxes? Which would fit the most situations? I'll be shooting short films on video, (if you'll excuse the oxymoron).
