Location/look help-north of england.

Not sure if I'm putting this in the correct section but here goes.

Basically I have been writing my first short and I'm struggling with locations and getting an authentic look.
The film is a horror and part of it is based in a run down part of russia, think pripyat(I know,Ukraine not russia),the sort of grey abandoned industrial look is what I need.

I'll be filming in the north of england(Manchester to be exact) but budget allows me to go a hundred miles or so in every direction. Any ideas for location or just how to put props and set pieces together to get that look on the cheap are greatly apprectiated.

Cheers.

Hi foggy,

I live in leeds, so not too far. there are plenty of old factories in leeds as im sure there are on the outskirts of manchester.

I would recommend trying to shoot as close to home as the script allows, it just makes things a bit easier, it also means if you need to go back for whatever reason you arent losing half a day of shooting!
