Lighting explained?

How well does this guy explain lighting? I don't really know too much about lighting so I'm trying to get acquainted. Anyone have any articles like this that try to explain lighting? I was going through the posts here but its so scattered its hard to get a definitive explanation on technique and desired effects.

Thanks.

Sorry I didn't post the article....

I had a long, detailed post prepared to fully explain lightning and then I reread your question. :D

Ah thats a shame, I wouldn't have minded reading it!

I've heard that this book is very good on the subject if you're looking to invest in a fulltime reference. I'm considering it, as I've heard many experienced indie filmmakers say they enjoy having a copy on set at all times for reference- http://www.amazon.co.uk/Set-Lighting-Technicians-Handbook-Distribution/dp/0240810759/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1311805165&sr=1-1

My friend lent me that DIY $30 Film School book. I would recommend getting the revised version. It's very helpful and very detailed on every aspect of film-making!

I would highly recommend checking out Lighting for Film and Television. It's a bit pricey, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper than film school. It's full of great information.

I've seen a lot of talk about this as well, and I am definitely considering it. Thinking about it, it isn't particularly more expensive than a couple of books on the subject, and probably infinitely more useful. I'm still jobhunting at the moment, but if I do manage to get more money on my side it looks very good.

SinEater, do you own this DVD? If so, I'd love to hear any more feedback you have on it:)
