I use pretty much all Chinese stuff. There are no issues that I've seen with the florescent Chinese lights.
I had an issue with 1000W and 500W halogens. At some point, the cable heated to the point it became a fire hazard, and I had to buy replacement cables. My DP fixed them up for me... what a nice guy.
What brands do you use? I have a Bowens but want to add a couple to make a 3-point set.
