Kubrick article

Hey everyone,

My latest article in the series Dissecting Directors is on Kubrick. It just went up on The Clapper Bored recently. I analyzed three frames from his movies and left some details i noticed (and others i probably didnt even notice) out of the article. If you guys are interested in reading it, you can find it here: http://www.theclapperbored.com/2011/10/10/dissecting-directors-kubrick/

It would be even better if you guys commented on the clapper bored, used your film making eyes and pointed out all the details i missed in the frame grabs.

Cheers!

Ernest.

PS

The older articles on Hitchcock and Lynch can be found here: http://www.theclapperbored.com/2011/08/25/dissecting-directors-hitchcock/

and here: http://www.theclapperbored.com/2011/08/16/dissecting-directors-lynch/

A fun read, Ernest, though I imagine one could easily write a thousand pages on dissecting Kubrick's images and barely scratch the surface.

Coincidentally, I just re-watched The Shining yesterday with commentary track. There will never be another Kubrick. Ever.

Not... Not even me?

*sob*

Thanks everyone! (including Guerrilla Angel)

@2001: True. It's the easiest article ive written so far just bc there is so much to write about.

@dr stilly: That one is my fav just bc it looks so real ;)

"Kubrick was a one of the most meticulous and detail oriented directors to have ever lived. Before making a film he would research his subject thoroughly and plan the movie so completely."

This apparently didn't extend to actually knowing the point that the author was making with the source material (Clockwork Orange) :P

...Just started reading the article now. If I have any non-sarcastic comments I'll be sure to leave them on The 'Bored ;)

I read ur comment on the article. Very astute!

I don't think Kubrick cared what the author of the source material thought. He was making an adaptation, and one that he would manipulate into whatever he intended.

From everything I've read, and it's quite extensive at this point, Kubrick was a lot more competitive than people realized. He was constantly dissing other filmmakers, even his friends, as being lesser than himself.

At the same time, is it arrogance when the person stating such things is actually correct?

stephen king hated the shining because Kubrick deviated from the original story so often in the film. Why? Because he aparently he was using the film to tell a secret story of when he made the mood landing film (see appollo 11 on the boys jumper)...hmm...who knows...dun dun dun!

You know what? I still haven't seen 2001 from start to finish. It's not exactly a secret that I prefer films to be concise and *plotted* but I really need to sit down and just watch it. If only the pesky internet hand't been invented...

Thanks for posting this Ernest. I've been meaning to make a topic on here about DD for some time. I encourage everyone to read the Lynch and Hitch articles too (not just because I like hits) because they're great as well! :)
