Is this competition genuine?

I've been working on getting my writing 'out there' and one of the avenues I've been using is writing competitions. So far I've avoided ones that require an entry fee and have managed to vet the free ones to some degree before submitting my entries. However the pool, at least in Australia, isn't very deep and so now I'm looking at ones that require an entry fee.

Only, how can I tell if they're legitimate or not? Seems like a great scam. Get people to pay you, get them to send you their manuscripts, and yay! Free money and potentially sellable material!

What ways can I, as someone with limited resources, little experience and no contacts, use to vet these competitions before forking over my precious work and even more precious money?

I think it means google is your friend? (incidentally I used google to look that up lol) so yeah, do your research on google, look for any reviews, experiences. I don't know if withoutabox does screenplay submissions too? you could try them.

In regards to your work being stolen. always copyright everything you send off (properly or the poor mans method)

All the best

I think it means google is your friend?

Oh. An internet meme. Yay.

Why do people post inane responses like this? Is a discussion forum not a place for discussion?

Why is it that Google trumps every other source or method of information gathering? How does one vet the information gained through Google? Google?

I find it incredibly annoying, and somewhat immature, that people point to Google as the answer to everything. The assumption that Google is a reliable source of information is much like expecting Fox News to be unbiased.
