Internships.

Hello all -

Summer's coming, and I'd like to intern at a few potential locations. I'm a junior in high school currently, and the internship would take place over one month of the coming summer. I know a few local companies who have offered to take me, though I'm still trying to nab some of the more fruitful internships in LA or New York. That said, I have a lot of letter-writing and self promoting/explaining to do.

I'm sure a good amount of you have experience on internships - do you have any general tips on what has been an effective method of securing one? At the moment, I'm sending out e-mails to all contacts I can find, briefly explaining that I'd like to pursue the industry and would love any opportunity to get as close to the action as possible. Should I provide links to my work in the introductory e-mails as well, or should I hold off / never send those? Also, has anybody had a pleasurable experience with a company or individual that may be willing to take me? Location wise, I'm somewhat open - I've saved some money, and I have some family in/near cities like LA or New York that I could probably camp out with for the summer. I live in Arizona, if that changes anything. Anything helps!

Thanks,
Sam

Summer internships at Los Angeles based companies are usually
filled in late January/early February. I suggest you stick with the
local companies for this summer and in Sept/Oct start contacting
LA/NY companies for summer of 2013.
