I've been writing screenplays for about eight years now, after finishing my latest script I decided that I will shoot it independently. Since I don't have much experience in the shooting aspect of filmmaking I am looking for a few helpful books (preferably recent publications). Any suggestions would be appreciated, I plan to shoot on digital.

Are you gonna use Film or DV?

I use DV, and recently picked up :

Digital Moviemaking - 2nd Edition by Scott Billups, isbn 0-941188-80-9

Any suggestions for books on specifics like lighting or cinematography?

Painting with Light by John Alton, the only book you'll ever need on lighting.

As to cinematography, I really don't think the best way is to learn from a book. Don't do your own cinematography on your first picture, hire a good person in and learn from them.

Considering finding someone who's already shot a feature to help you out. You can probably find someone who'll work with you, who'll accept pay around the same as the cost would be to rent his/her equipment.
