Indie Filmmaker? Have Poster? We'll put it in our film!

Hey my name is Max Einhorn and I'm the director of an upcoming feature called The Back Lot.

Here's a short synopsis:

It's a BLACK COMEDY with a hint of filmmaking:

Gordon (Justin Simonetti) is an ambitious teenage film director who leads a crew of unique personalities as they regularly shoot short films in their small town . His crew includes Peter (Rachel Payne), his just as driven director of photography who just wants some appreciation from Gordon; Katz (Jordan Neidig), the sweet but occasionally clumsy boom operator; and Stan (Zac Einhorn) or "the Stand-around-man, the youngest in the crew who just wants something to do on set.

When an accident on set sends an actor to the hospital, Gordon takes it as a sign from the “creative gods” that he’s not doing his job. When Gordon eventually pushes his crew to make a snuff film as a sacrifice to the gods, their friendships are put to the test.

So I'm proposing an opportunity:

The main characters in The Back Lot are huge film buffs.
We need to fill their rooms and our film festival scenes with movie posters.

We can't use posters from studio films due to copyright infringement, so we want to know if you'd like to have YOUR POSTER IN THE BACK LOT.

Here's what you need to do:

1. Go to indie go go.com/The-Back-Lot (no spaces) and make a $5 contribution. You'll see it says poster opportunity. We're still trying to raise our budget and every little bit helps.

2. You'll be contacted by someone from my team about where to mail the poster.

3. We'll place your poster somewhere in a scene, so look for it in The Back Lot! It could very well appear in a character's room or or during a film festival scene! Who knows, maybe you'll get a closeup.

The Deadline is July 27th. We'll take any size, but minimum 8 1/2 by 11 glossy.

You want $5 from people so you can use their poster?
Don't like your approach. You ask for $5 bucks at the end of your proposal.

Doesn't sound like a scam to me, just an interesting approach to fundraising. Unfortunately, his target audience doesn't really have the funding here... I wish I could do this, but it's not going to happen due to the funding issues.. Everything I have has to go into making films currently.

If you word this differently you will get a better response. Never mention money at the end, always upfront. It's similar to a hidden fee. Check this:

"Advertise your film in my film for only $5!"

Right off the bat you will get a better response. ;)

If the film is not made, people get their money back, RIGHT?

I have lots of issues with these fundraisers.
