Indie Film Promotion & Distribution Case Study

Hello everyone. We’re a small group of filmmakers putting together our first feature and we thought we would be as open book about the process as possible.

Last year we almost got a feature off the ground, but we had to cancel due to an assortment of technical reasons. However, we did shoot a trailer for that project which should give you a good idea of our visual and creative style (see below)

But now we’re embarking on a new script. Essentially we’re starting from scratch and we’re planning to shoot and distribute this film ourselves. So we’ve started a sort of journal for filmmakers to follow along and see how our efforts pay off… or don’t pay off… in which case you can learn from our bad decisions as well ☺

We’ve recently just re-launched our website and we’ve created a private page just for filmmakers to follow along and to contribute ideas or suggestions. The page is password protected:

Each month around the 15th, we’ll post updates about the film. Since we’re in pre-production now, the information on the site will be primarily concerned with our casting, location scouting and pre-film promotional efforts. However, after the film is launched we’ll be posting sales information, trailer marketing strategies and so on. You can follow along as we try to raise awareness of our film in these early stages now by visiting the site above. Each month we’ll post our metrics along with any information on how we increased site traffic or raised awareness about our film.

Since we’re on such a small budget we will attempt to be our own PR & distribution company and we’ll publish all of our successes and failures as we attempt to navigate though those waters as well. It should be interesting.

Looking forward to sharing our experience with you!
