improvising a crane with a C-stand

I'm sure I'm not the first to think of this, but a cursory inspection seems to show a basic c-stand would work for a simple jib arm moves provided it's used with something like my little dinky a$s 1.1 pound GH2.

Has anyone done it before here? Any tips before I start testing it?

I would think a 10' C-stand collapsed with sandbags at the ready would work. What are you going to use for the boom?

In a slightly related topic, I'm drawing up plans right now to mate a doorway dolly with a Glidecam or Steadicam articulating arm mount. A Porta-jib-dolly, if you will.

I thought I'd just use the 40" grip arm and use the grip head to mount the camera. I'll put a cheap tripod head on the grip head so I can do a simple tilt to keep frame. Actually I'll attach, I think, a second grip arm to give counterbalance.
