Image Centreing Software?

Does anybody know if it is possible to get what I would call "Image centreing software"?

What I have in mind is as follows:

1. You take a video of a bird, say, on maximum telephoto with the result that the image of the bird moves around fairly wildly

2. You decompose the video into several hundred images (easily done)

3. You select the bird with a cursor on the first image (easily done)

4. The software analyses each frame and moves and centres the bird - if in doubt, it could ask for confirmation

5. The images are turned back into a video (easily done)

You then amaze your friends and family with the the astonishingly rock solid video ...

Image stabilization is what you're looking for..

It can be done without cropping the image, but depends on several factors.. mainly how detailed the background is, and how unsteady the source footage is.

Using the example of a bird, it will likely be against the sky, in which case if it's a clear day the sky will be essentially one solid color, so motion title could be used to mirror the X & Y edges and eliminate the need to crop.

The best solution is to use a tripod and shoot steady footage in the first place.

Adobe AE CS4 has that kind of stabilization. It's not super ideal because it ends up cropping the edges of your video but it's still useful non-the less.

Many thanks!

Thanks - I was not sure what to call it. Having said that "Image stabilization" sounds like something you would get on a camera? eg see:

Er ... what is "Motion Title" please? there are 8,000 refs on Google but none of them explain what it is! OK, so I didn't read all 8,000

Yes, agreed but often the interesting things just come out of the blue ...

Motion tile lets you specify how many pixels to mirror along the X & Y axis of the frame, so that when the image is moved and there would otherwise be a gap, it gets filled in.

I'm pretty certain this tutorial covers it: http://videocopilot.net/tutorials/earthquake_with_32bpc/
