Minneapolis, MN - - - - - - There's no place like home

Joel Spence, former 5-year company member of the
Minneapolis-based Theatre de la Jeune Lune, returns to
Minneapolis next week during the 4th Annual SMMASH
(Strictly Midwest Movies and Short Hits) film

award-winning mockumentary, "Killing the Dream".
Spence will be present for the screening on Wednesday,
October 20.
Killing the Dream was awarded the Grand Jury Award at
the Temecula Valley Film Festival in 2003 as well as
the Artistic Director's Citation at the Ojai Film
Festival. Trailer and film information can be found on

"Killing the Dream" for Best Screenplay and it is also
in competition for the Audience’s Taste Award. Don’t
miss it's Minnesota premiere at the Excelsior Dock
Theater on Friday, October 15 at 5:00 p.m., Sunday,

Spence was a company member of Theatre de la Jeune
Lune for five years. He performed in over twenty-five
productions (including "Tartuffe", "3 Musketeers",
"Daves on Ice"). He toured with the company to the La
Jolla Playhouse, the Wilma Theater in Philadelphia and
The Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina. He
returned in 2003 to perform in "Hamlet" with the troop
in New York City. Spence also is the co-founder of
Minneapolis’ Hidden Theatre.
Spence moved to Los Angeles in 2002 and has since
appeared on episodes of "Miss Match", "The District",
and "Judging Amy" as well as landing roles in numerous
indie films. Joel has not abandoned his theater roots
though, as he understudied for Steve Martin’s new play
"The Underpants" at the Geffen Playhouse. He has also
appeared on stage in various plays including a sketch
comedy show. In the spring of 2005, Joel will be
returning to the role of Ken (Killing the Dream) in an
"untitled" remake of this feature film.
