LMAO!
Any ways...
My idea is we need a web site for the general public where they can see trailers and even entire productions for free for a limited time to help promote indie films. Also, there should be a news room and calendar area lisiting events where filmmakers will be in public events such as a ComicCon Show.
The web site will need promotion to get started.
But, what do you guys think of the idea?
First, I whole heartedly agree with your opening point.
To call the fabrication of a
paying fanbase out of ethereal space "daunting" is an understatement.
Second, but here's the rub with what you're proposing: Not only do you have to invest time and money to promote the proposed venue for promoting indie films and proposed indie films (the irony is not lost on me, BTW) - but - once a viewer's attention is successfully herded to the site to look at "Indy Film A" or "Proposed Indy Film A" their attention will immediately be fragmented to competing Indy Films B, C, D, etc. + Proposed Indy Films X, Y, Z, etc.
Just the opposite of what the intent is.
Viewers/supporters could be divided into several camps: The die-hard dedicated investor fetishist, the professional multiple target tracker, the humpty-dump stumble-upon impulse viewer.
Too few of the former two.
Too many of the last.
Trying to make the indy site "The goto site" is going to be a nightmare.
I'm convinced self integration into multiple forums as an active member is the low-cost way to go, but by God it's gonna suck up a sh!tload of time.
No argument.
Filmmaking is a team sport, like race car driving where all the attention may be on the driver (director), but it takes a substantial suport crew to keep that one guy going around the track.
We about need a dedicated marketer to market what we produce.
