I couldn't blow the microphone on the camera could I?

Don't you have hearing protection for you camera? ;) The general consensus is that the more sensitive the microphone, the more likely that a strong shockwave could damage it. I'm sure that a firearm is a lot louder than a CO2 pistol, so I'm not sure you need to be worried; especially if you can keep some distance between you and the shooter. You could muffle it a bit by wrapping some sound absorbing material around the mic element. The type and amount of damage that could be done is going to be dependent on the design of the microphone and it's maximum rated SPL. Condenser microphones work radically different from dynamic microphones.

Keep in mind that you won't get good audio if it exceeds the recording system's dynamic range. If you want good audio, get a recording of the pistol going off from a distance where the system can handle it, and dub that report over the top of each distorted shot in your video; assuming you set up to record discussion and/or ambient sounds.
