How to make a phone effect.

what the title says..if someone were to use the phone, you would hear the speaker talk and in that same scene, how do you make it so you hear what the person on the phone is talking about. is that an effect on a program? (i use sony vegas pro 8.0) thanks!

The telephone sound is just a narrow audio band, due to limited bandwidth on traditional phones. You can get that tinny, hollow sound with an equalizer; crank up the 1-5Khz bands and taper off on either side of them (adjust to suit taste, etc.). Then, you add the remote end of the conversation in post, like a voice over.

Have you tried holding the mic up to a phone, have someone call and talk or say whatever and see how it sounds?

It's not very technical, but it's worth a try and it's free to try...
