How to build network?

Hi,

Many people have told me that if you want to become successful in this business, you need to have contacts. So how does one exactly make contacts when you're just starting out? Festivals? Local film club? My college has a film program, so I think my first stop should be there, right? Also, people say that it's business at the end of the day. How should I approach my career by keeping this thing in mind?

Help other people make movies is a good way to network. Look out for any networking events for film makers in your area and then try to help them with their projects. Make as many friends as you can. Add them to your contacts after meeting them so you can remember them and how to get a hold of them. I normally add them via facebook right after I meet them. Go to film festivals and meet the people that made the movies.
