How To Be A Successful Director?

My dream is to be a successful movie director, but I want to know the basic steps which will help me in the process. I live in Ontario, so can you please give me some tips/advice?

No idea, maybe whoever told you it was $1,800 was mistaken. The US list price is $999, so I can't imagine Amazon's discounting it at all.

lol i just feel stupid because the thing i thought was after effects was actually CS5 Production Premium which includes things like photoshop and other softwares ...

I've heard if you're a student you can get some programs for free. You have to register somewhere and show you're a student and they send a copy of the software to your school. You might be able to use it for personal use.
