How do you make contact?

I have a completed, polished screenplay which was recently optioned in Hollywood (unfortunately, no gold ring) which I would like to see made.

Would like to contact mature indie or wannabee film makers, but haven't yet found the right forum.

Might anyone reading this post have a suggestion.

Thanks,

Brett

Sorry, I wasn't specific about "recently." That was a few years ago, the option expired and I was handed the script back where it's been collecting dust.

Regarding Sweetie's post about a log line. I have a page-and-a-half synopsis which I can post. However, I don't wish to breach protocol here, so I would be grateful if you could advise exactly how I should approach this.

Thanks,

Brett

The reason I asked if you had a logline... What if you met someone who could make your script a reality and distribute wide... He's grabbing his coffee at the cafe and you have 10 seconds to pitch your idea or miss your opportunity forever.... go.

Can you cram a page and a half into 10 seconds?

Feel free to post your page and a half synopsis, but you really need to develop your logline in case you get that one in a lifetime opportunity.

FYI: Everyone thinks their script is the best thing since sliced bread. The reality of it, most aren't as great as the writer would like to believe. Not saying yours isn't great, I really don't know, just letting you know the likely reality of the situation.

Log line, etc.

To Sweetie and others, I am very grateful for your help.

Creating a 10-second logline is no problem. I'm a retired journalist and can condense a four-page story to five or six headline words.

I've been through the Hollywood labyrinth. After several years of securing an agent, then an option, but nothing to show.

Have decided I'd like to try to reach an indie filmmaker who is not wanting to write and produce, but simply to pick up a low budget script. At this point, would also talk to mature wannabees.

My big question at the moment is WHERE TO POST? Should I post in indietalk.com and if so, in which group or division? And are there other online groups, websites, etc. that I should consider.

Again, many thanks for all the help. It's much appreciated.

Brett

Okay, sorry I misunderstood your use of the word "recently". I'm afraid I'm still not entirely clear on what you're looking for when you say you'd like to reach out to an "indie filmmaker who is not wanting to produce, but simply to pick up a low budget script."

If I read that to mean that you simply want a director, then you'll find no shortage of applicants. But then, who is funding it? If you've got funding, and a script, then yes, IT is one of many places on the internet where you can find a director.

But I have a feeling that's not what you're looking for. Would I be correct to assume that you need at least an executive producer (person with money)?

Build it and they will come.

Hah, you thought I meant the other movie, didn't you.

A bit more clarification

Sorry. I'm trying to make contact with an indie film maker who is not seeking to both WRITE and produce is own film. Emphasis is on WRITE. I have a completed script. Am aspiring to hook up with a film maker who doesn't write his own script but wants to make a film.

Thanks,

Brett

It'll depend on the script. If it's truly low budget, well written, interesting and you're happy with equity in the production (not asking for an up front fee for the writing), I'm fairly sure I'd find a local or two who'd be interested in making your story come alive.

Depending on the story, I may even be interested myself.

not to be "that guy" but I just gotta mention, that what ever you have been doing for the past several years is wrong, else you'd not be here asking for help... you get me?

Do go to this sub forum http://www.indietalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=43 and start refining your log line. Peps here will pick it apart until its exactly awesome.

YIKES, I sound like an a#%. Sorry, I just meant that perhaps its time to try to do things different,.

Yeah, that'd be pretty much all of us. But you confused us when, in an earlier post, you said that you want a filmmaker who doesn't want to produce. So...who is going to produce?

I'll be blunt, I'm not entirely sure you know what a producer does. The job title is vague, and can mean many different things. However, not one single film will be made without someone who provides funding, and that is a very necessary role that at least one producer must fill.

So, when you say you're searching for someone that doesn't want to produce, that makes us wonder if you already have money lined up. Again, I'll be honest and speculate that I don't think you do. If that's the case, then you definitely need a producer. First and foremost, you need a producer. Once you have a producer, they will hire the director, and all other positions.

If you're looking for a producer, then the sub-forum that wheatgrinder mentioned is a good place to hang out. And yes, there are many websites and forums dedicated specifically to people who are trying to market their spec-scripts (which is what it sounds like you have).

Regardless, we all wish you the best. I'm curious -- what's the logline?

Sweetie,

I would like to take you up on your offer to take a look at either my script synopsis or entire script.

Tried to contact you via IndieTalk e-mail, but perhaps you haven't checked your inbox lately.

Please feel free to contact me at:
