editing Help with Sony Vegas

Actually I am not really sure if it has to do with Vegas. Here is what I have been fooling around with while the camera is plugged into the computor:

Drag the icons into Vegas and create a two minuet movie just as an experiement. I saved it and comes up under dvd architect (I don't even know where that came from but it has to do with Sony. Anyway that is where I can find the trial movie I made)

My problem is this: I cannot seem to download the footage. I can only work while the camera is plugged in. The camera battery happened to die while I was fooling around (before I saved anything, and I wasn't going to save anything anyway since I was just experiementing) and I couldn't get anymore images - but I did get the audio.

So why is that? How can I get just audio with no images?
More important, how can I work with the images without the need for the camera to be plugged in?

I don't want to start putting something together and have it all go away in the middle of it.

Okay and last question for the night, can I go back and redo what I have already saved or what is saved is final and thats it??

Thanks again.

Instead of dragging your images from your camera into Vegas, drag them from your camera into a new folder on your hard drive (or external hard drive). Then in Vegas, select "Import Project Media" under "File" and select the images you want to use from their new location your hard drive.

You should be able to save your project as a Vegas project (and save often).

When you are done editing and want to render a finished movie, you can do this in a couple of different ways...if you hit the "Make a Movie" button it will most likely open your edited project in Sony's DVD architect. But if you don't want to author a DVD, you can also go to File->Render and do it there, as an mpeg2 or avi or wmv or quicktime, etc. It will save in a new folder called "Renders" within whatever folder the actual Vegas project is saved.

I hope this helps...let me know if you're still confused.
