Help with my Sony HVR-A1

Hi all,

I can't seem to get my camera to shoot in full 1080 HD, I have set it to 1080 hd but when I play back the footage I just shot it always records in 4:3 not 16:9 I just can't seem to work it out.....................any idea's?
