Hello, my name is Stephen Flannery and I apologize for this very long post that I am writing. I decided that I wanted to make movies at the small age of four after watching numerous Godzilla films. I can remember being amazed that they could take a man who is over five feet tall and make him look two hundred feet. I remember when my grandparents telling me that and being amazed. Since then, film making is just my passion. I realized around the age of nine that if I wanted to make a movie, that I was going to have to write it myself because no one would just give it to me. It would not just fall from the heavens and into my lap.
I then started to write when I turned 14. I wrote my first screenplay, Death Syndrome, by hand in 2004. Then I started to research television screenplays and developed a sitcom with my cousins called The Beach House and I wrote the first episode's draft in five days starting from July 4, 2004 through July 9, 2004. I wrote the second episode and made an outline for about five episodes. A year later, in May 2005; I had been invited to pitch a film to a small independent studio in Ohio. I pitched a police thriller called Hallelujah and they liked it and wanted me to write a script based off the pitch. About half way through the script, I got the bad news that the company went bankrupt and I was left with a script that is only half completed.
Let me go back and mention that in January 2004, I had started my first film class at the middle school I went too. In the Summer of 2004 when I started my freshman year in high school I took the film class that was offered. Then my sophomore year I took classes to better my writing which paid off when I got to Hawai'i. In 2005, I did my first short film called Maze of Thought which ended in disaster after getting detained while walking around near a military base with a video camera. More than half of the footage was destroyed and I cut together what I could and it came out to two minutes and forty-five seconds.
In 2006, I had moved to Hawai'i and I spent about a month cooped up in a hotel room and I wrote a script called Paying Dues in about two weeks. I am planning on writing two more films to make it a trilogy. I started my junior year of high school at LHS and I had the best class and teacher. Our high school had connections to the public access and we shot high school sports games and town hall meetings that aired here and there. We also did PSAs that aired too. In 2006/2007 I had three PSAs aired; Ouch...Wear Sunscreen; Spinning; and acted in Depression Hurts. Then in 2007/2008 I had The Last Cig and I did voice work on Eat Healthy. All five have aired on television as well as having the Eat Healthy PSA actually play in theaters on the island of O'ahu.
In February 2008 I did a short film called Crisis which aired on television on March 31, 2008. Then in May, I did another short film called Truth In Meanings. Then in August I moved out to Hilo for college. In October of 2008, I had actually gotten a chance at doing another writing gig which went nowhere. I was asked to write a draft of the film Janjaweed for Uwe Boll. The script was rejected due to budgetary reasons. Right now I was hoping that I could go out and shoot two movies I wrote (finishing the second script right now) Damien Frost and The 2012 Effect. But recently the people interested in producing have just dropped me completely since I guess that I was probably thought I was not serious about the project which sucks. I am trying to get stuff together to get Damien Frost shot.
Any questions, feel free to ask.
