Hello IndieTalk Community!

My names Alex, I'm an amateur film maker whose work up to this point has been mainly focused around visual effects. I enjoy film making and VFX as a means of creative expression and a way to share my passions for the anime, comic, gaming and sci-fi universes. My enjoyment of VFX isn't just about the art but also the creative problem solving that is required!

Looking forward to learning from this community and taking part in the various discussions to help grow as a film maker.

I'm currently using HitFilm 2 Ultimate for most of my 2D/3D compositing, basic animation and particle work. For smaller edits I tend to also use the built-in editor, however, for larger projects Final Cut Pro or Sony Vegas.

For modeling and animation I tend to use Blender 3D at the moment.

That's a good question. It definitely started as a hobby being mainly focused on VFX but has developed into a desire to do both VFX and directing. I definitely want to grow as a film maker and expand beyond relying on VFX to carry my projects. As for getting into the "biz" that's definitely never off the plate, I'm lucky enough that at work I'm involved with looking after some editing, shooting and directing of projects when the opportunity comes up. So being able to learn while working and also play with tech that I couldn't afford on my own has been a valuable learning experience. (Side note: My work isn't related to Film necessarily but we're starting to add more and more video work into our marketing).

I'm around a few local shows (Arrow, Continuum) even though I'm not involved in any way but it's definitely caught my eye to maybe one day be involved in that type of thing.

With regards to the audio - I definitely agree... that's an area I'm not very strong in. Most of my audio has been done by my brother who also does this as a hobby. We work together on the same channel combining each of our interests into the same projects.
 
Had a quick skim through - have some nice stuff there. I'm not a vfx guy, so I can't offer much critique, but I do see you improving with each piece on there. Would be nice, perhaps, to combine some more story elements to a VFX piece? But if you're mostly interested in the VFX side, then that's not as necessary.

Down to collaborate in the future? :)

Thanks for checking it out, I definitely agree with your feedback it's something I'd like to work towards.

If the project works for both of us and the timing is right then a collab could be possible. The latter being the biggest one, I dislike being time poor these days!
