Does your camera have more manual controls than you are using? We can plainly see the aperture changing at 0:30 as the villain crosses the light path.

Is there any particular reason the shot is blurry at 0:38?
 
The film is blurry at 0:38 because I'm used to an autofocusing handycam. I shot this with a t3i the day I got it, and quite frankly forgot to focus it. I'm kind of dumb like that :) This was basically just done to learn the camera a bit. And yes, there were a few nickles and dimes in the piggy bank.
