GH1 or t3i/600D?

I know this kind of question gets asked a lot around here...

I've been saving for a DSLR for about 1.5 years, I allways thought the right choice would be the t3i/600D.
But now I'm having second thoughts...maybe a used GH1??

Used GH1 for around 300,00€ or New t3i/600D for 550,00€?
(used canons go for about 50€ cheaper than new ones so not worth it).

I will still have to save money for another 6/7 months to get the Canon.
I would have to save for another 3 months to ger the GH1.


What I want to do with the camera:

50% video - short films - I'm a beginner willing to learn - composition/lighting etc.
50% photo (stills) - it has to be my everyday camera - family - trips - everything - etc.


I would like to hear your opinions (specially from those who owns both).


GH1 or t3i/600D ? Is the t3i worth waiting a bit more?

This waiting is killing me....

I haven't tried the GH1 so I can't really make a stand here.
But I can tell you that the t3i is one hell of a camera! I own one and I am super-satisfied.

It's an option... but as expensive as a new Canon.

I'm from Portugal. Why the Canon by far? For low light and dynamic range yes sure, Canon's better.
For image detail/sharpness the GH1 is better.

I don't trust what Snapsort says, many things are messed up and they make lots of mistakes. I'm saying what I see in videos, it's pretty obvious.

I consider the t2i yes of course but I won't be saving much and I will lose the handy articulated screen.

A GH2 tem hacks "superpotentes" que apesar de gerarem arquivos imensos, geram também imagens muito acima da média dessa faixa de preço, assemelhando-se à uma Scarlet. Principalmente em low light que é onde essas câmeras baratas revelam suas limitações, a GH2 hackeada com um patch tipo Sedna praticamente não tem ruído até ISO 1000 (ao invés de ruído, se parece como um grão de película). Imagem limpinha, robusta, fílmica.

Estou usando-a há vários meses e aconselho fortemente a considerar.

I'm going to look for used GH2's on ebay...
Talvez apareça alguma por um bom preço...

gebo - it sounds like you are on the right track. The hacked GH2 is indeed "superpotentes". I shoot with GH1 and GH2 and the GH2 is a much better still and video camera.

Sadly, it is hard to find a GH2 body for less than 800EUR

At your price point, the GH1 is probably your best option.
