Funny Story...

Let's get a little back-story before I explain what happened...

Last night in my hometown, something horrible happened... a drug dealer shot two random people (and wasn't found, mind you...) and I believe one of them was killed...
I had just gotten out of the theater, seeing the Hobbit, dropping my brother off where he lives... RIGHT NEXT DOOR to the alley where it happened (where we saw an awe-inspiring line of ambulances, police cars, and firetrucks, as well as the helicopter life-flight taking off... shoulda had my camera for some incredible footage, but I digress.) Here is a link to the story, if you wanna see what the police had to say about it, which some of the info they got was incorrect. http://www.kentontoday.com/ (Check "local news")'

Thank god my daughter was with her great-grandma, because we also passed by a high speed pursuit on our way out of town. Every shadowy figure in the night had the potential for me running them over (just in case)

Today, we had planned a shoot for none other than a shootout scene!!! Guns... a guy in a ski mask... what could go wrong?

I'm gonna let you guess what exactly went wrong before I finish this story. I wanna see some of the responses you guys can come up with. :)

There was a forum member, about two years ago, who posted a scan of the newspaper-clipping of them getting arrested for being dumbasses in public with airsoft guns.

Similar to that? :hmm:

Someone saw you with masks and realistic looking guns, called the cops. You almost got killed by the police. Yeah?

Surprisingly, no cops involved. These guys were driving around playing hero, looking for the shooter (these kind of things are FUN for this stupid little town.)

They watched us for a little bit, driving around the block several times, then came over (keep in mind, we were on a friend's property, in his driveway) and asked "Can I help you?!" In a very demanding, aggressive voice.

I said "No... ?" Because I had honestly forgotten the events of the previous night.

In the same tone, he quipped "What the **** are you doin on Daniel's (our friend) property? What's in that guy's pocket!?" He was referring to someone hiding a prop gun.

I said, "Can't you see we're filming a movie?" We had a boom mic, a tripod, I was holding the camera in hand.

"Filmin a movie?" He said with that dumb, redneck sounding voice akin to the likes of Larry the Cable Guy on steroids. His friend (possibly father, this gentleman was much older,) proceeded to step forward from his position leaning against his car and demanded to see the "Tape" I guess he was never told about digital, because I joked "well, we don't have any 'tape.'" (How i wish we had a roll of scotch or duct tape in hand... lol)

Frustration set in as he quipped "You bein a smartass!? You can't record anything without a tape! What the hell are ya'll doin out here?!"

I repeated "We are filming a movie." Then added, "These are actors, this is prop glass shattered on the ground, and Daniel is inside if you want to go in and ask him if we're allowed to be out here."

Not entirely sure what happened, but somehow, Tyler dropped the prop gun he was hiding in his pocket, and it rolled in the general direction of the Clampett family.

I have never laughed so hard in my life as the younger, larger fella bolted for this gun (made of plastic) pushing Tyler aside, picking it up and pointing it as us yelling "Freeze!" Before he realized that what he held in his hand was nothing but a plastic BB gun, spray painted and coated to look real (credit to Cody, the prop guy)

It ends anticlimactically, with me showing them the footage, very easy to discern that nothing was going on, although we did look very suspicious, the damn movie equipment should've hinted that perhaps nothing evil was afoot.

The End.

That is actually a pretty funny story. Glad no one got hurt. I recommend in the future, informing the local police that you're going to be shooting a film involving prop weapons just to make sure nothing happens. Having a guy holding up a sign saying that this is a film set in progress probably won't hurt either.
